Sujit Choudhry Works to Help Build Better Governments Through Better Constitutions

During a recent symposium on the constitutional challenges being faced by the semi-presidential system of government that is in use in the Ukraine, held in Kiev on July 10, 2017, the director of the Center for Constitutional Transitions, Sujit Choudhry, joined other top experts in the field to discuss how the Ukrainian government can be bolstered to better face the hurdles that lay ahead. During the meeting Choudhry stated that there are a lot of factors that have led to the lack of stability in Ukraine, not the least of which is the concentration of presidency power, as well we weak political parties, the legislature electoral system, and interference from foreign powers. During the symposium, Sujit Choudhry also mentioned the recent wave of transitional democracies being involved in constitutional making decisions. As the head of the Center for Constitutional transitions, he is considered to be the foremost expert on constitution building and democratization. Choudhry has been the author of more than 90 articles working papers, book chapters, and peer-reviewed reports over the course of his career and has been consulted by major think tanks working on problems of democratization and government the world over. He is a holder of degrees in law from both Oxford, Toronto, as well as Harvard.
